New Phone or Not? When to Upgrade to NBN-ready Handsets

At the time, there was an option to buy a set top box, which served as a cost-effective stop gap, but it wasn’t until we upgraded the TV that we got the best out of digital TV.
It’s no different to your phone and the NBN.
You don’t have to buy a new phone to utilise the NBN. Adapters are available to make your current phone lines NBN compatible, which means you can keep your current phones. That may seem like a reasonable thing to do if cash flow in your business is tight, but there comes a point when it may simply be more cost effective – and more productive – to upgrade to NBN business phones.
Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of each.
If you’re considering an adapter to keep your current phones going, here are a few important things to keep in mind:
- How old is your current phone system?
- Are spare parts available for my current phone system? And will providers continue to support this model into the future?
- What new features would you like to have now the NBN is available and will your current system provide them?
If your phone system is relatively new and in good condition, you may be able to just update the main phone system unit and continue using your handsets. Analogue, Digital and IP handsets can all be used with a hybrid onsite phone system.
Analogue handsets, however, cannot be used with a cloud hosted NBN solution.
